Yemen airstrike victim six from al-Qaida

Yemeni warplanes killed at least six militants linked to al-Qaida on Wednesday, the government said as it pressed ahead with an offensive against insurgents in the south.
 

Yemen has been struggling to control Islamist fighters in the territory who have taken advantage of the chaos surrounding more than a year of mass protests and fighting that unseated former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The country's defense ministry said it launched an airstrike on a group of militants near the southern city of Lawdar, killing six of them.

Lawdar residents told Reuters one person was also killed and another two injured after mortar rounds hit their houses. There was no independent confirmation of who launched the attacks.

A university professor and department head of a uranium Ornament of enrichment facility was killed by a bomb placed on his car by a motorcyclist in Tehran on Wednesday, Iranian media reported, in an incident that looked similar to attacks on the energy released by a nuclear reaction nuclear scientists in the city more than one year ago.

The semi-official FARS news agency cited witnesses as saying a motorcyclist stuck a bomb on the side of the car which then exploded, killing one and injuring two people inside. Witnesses told Reuters one other pedestrian was killed in the bombing. FARS identified the victim as Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan. State-run Press TV said he was a university professor.

A university lecturer and nuclear scientist have been killed in a car explosion in north Tehran, reports say.

"The bomb was a magnetic one and the same as the ones previously used for the assassination of the scientists, and is the work of the Zionists (Israelis)" FARS quoted Deputy Governor Safarali Baratloo as saying.

The United States and Israel have both denied involvement in any of the deaths, despite both countries' disapproval of Iranian nuclear ambitions, and threats to take action should Tehran refuse to cease nuclear development.

The person killed was identified by several media as Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, a scientist who worked on separating gases at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, according to the website of a different university from which he graduated around a decade ago.

“This morning a motorbiker attached a bomb to a Peugeot 405, which exploded,” the deputy governor of Tehran province, Safar Ali Bratloo, was quoted as saying by the ILNA news agency.

The blast happened when a motorcyclist stuck a bomb on the side of the car, says Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.

Mr Ahmadi-Roshan, 32, was a graduate of oil Industry University and supervised a department at Natanz uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan province, Fars reported.

There has been much controversy over Iran's nuclear activities.

Tehran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful energy purposes, but the US and other Western nations suspect it of seeking to build nuclear deadly weapon.

However, in August 2011, an Iranian man - Majid Jamali Fashi - was sentenced to death for the killing, with state authorities saying he was paid by Israel's Mossad spy agency. Israel does not comment on such claims.

Total news of a suicide car bomb has exploded in the eastern Afghan city of Khost, killing at least eight people and injuring scores more, police said. The resurgent Taliban guerrillas, fighting to drive out foreign forces and government, claimed responsibility bombing for the attack which targeted a police station.
The officers were on a routine patrol at the entrance of the compound when the attack happened, said Daoud Ahmadi, a spokesman for the governor of Helmand province. One child was also killed in the strike that left behind seven other police officers wounded, he said.
A patrolman and an officer – were among the dead, said Abdul-Hakim Isaqzai, chief of Khost province the police, near Pakistan borders.
"It was very powerful, it shook Khost city," he said of the blast.
The police chief said security forces had surrounded the neighbor hood and ambulances were transporting the injured to medical facilities.

Encephalitis is caused by a viral infection from eating or drinking water or contaminated food from mosquito or through breathing in respiratory from an infected person.

Around 347 people have died in Uttar Pradesh, while 54 children have died in the neighbouring state of Bihar. Over two thousand cases have been reported in the last three months.
Its 400 people, mainly children, have died in an outbreak of viral encephalitis in northern India, health officials say.
However, far 2,300 patients admitted to a hospital in the affected Gorakhpur area of Uttar Pradesh state.
It was a "tragedy beyond imagination" with children dying every day doctor told the BBC.
Most of the deaths this year have happened since July, doctors say.
Doctors say affected patients come from 10-12 districts in the region, and are mostly poor.
In the past six years, children dying of viral encephalitis, a water-borne disease caused by contaminated water. Viral encephalitis diseases cause head aches and vomiting and can lead to comas, brain dysfunctions, seizures and inflammations of the heart and kidney.
Six months age children to 15 years are worst affected and most of the victims are poor people from rural areas.
Pediatrician doctor say, it is an unbelievable or unbreakable tragedy, children are dying every day.
