Dhaka Gladiators 1st Twenty20 BPL Champion

Mashrafe Mortaza-led Dhaka Gladiators to a thrilling eight-wicket victory over Barisal Burners in the final Twenty20 match of the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on super match-winning.


Dhaka Gladiators lost two wickets to score 144 with 26 ball remaining in response to Barisal Burners-set 141-run target at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
Imran Nazir’s highest 75 and Anamul Haque’s 49 not out helped Dhaka Gladiators reach the winning target.Earlier Dhaka Gladiators’ captain Mashrafe Mortaza invited Barisal Burners to bat first after winning the tossBarisal Burners scored 140 for 7 wickets. Captain BJ Hodge took responsible 70 not out.Shahid Afridi bagged 3 wickets
Brad Hodge carried the bat through to stay 70 not out facing 51 balls, but the Dhaka bowlers struck regularly from the other end to peg back Barisal. Afridi provided the X-factor finishing with 3-23 while kept Barisal’s score always in Dhaka’s reach.


Barisal’s Ahmed Shehzad scored highest 486 runs in the tournament while  Dhaka Gladiators’ Bangladeshi left-arm spinner Elias Sunny took highest 17 wickets.
Sunny was also adjudged most valuable Bangladeshi player while man of the tournament prize went to Khulna Royal Bengals’ Sakib al Hasan, who claimed 15 wickets and scored 280 runs. Sakib won a Honda CITY 1.5L car as an award, given by Honda Automobiles in Bangladesh.  


Dhaka’s Mohammad Ashraful was awarded for maximum nine catches in the tournament.
Dhaka was given a winners’ purse of Tk 5 crore while Barisal won Tk 2 crore as runners-up.
Dhaka Gladiators became the champions of the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 on Wednesday, outplaying Barisal Burners by eight wickets in a one-sided final.
Man of the match Imran Nazir starred for the Gladiators with a sparkling 75 and was out with only five runs from victory in a comprehensive thrashing, belying the notion that chasing in a final is always a risky proposition.
Earlier, Captain Brad Hodge kept his cool as wickets tumbled around him to take the Burners to 140 for 7 in 20 overs.
Burners' highest partnership was of 43 runs from 27 deliveries between the openers Shehzad and Hodge. Hodge led from the front with an unbeaten 70 off 57 balls.
Elias Sunny of Dhaka Gladiators was chosen as the Most Valuable Local Player for his 17-wicket haul in the league. Most Valuable Foreign Player award went to his teammate Azhar Mahmood.
World test and one day All-Rounder Shakib Al Hasan of Khulna Royal Bengals was adjudged the Man of the Series for his 280 runs at an average of 40.00 and 15 wickets.
Dhaka Gladiators Vs Barisal Burners match of the Destiny-Boishakhi Bangladesh Premier League T20 held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the Dhaka city's Mirpur.
The franchise of the country's second largest division took just 15.3 overs to overhaul the Barisal Burners in a 7-wicket win in front of a full house, for successive days, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

BARISAL BURNERS: 140-7 in 20 overs (Hodge 70 not out, Shehzad 28; Afridi 3-23, Naved 2-24).
DHAKA GLADIATORS: 144-2 in 15.4 overs (Nazir 75, Anamul 49 not out; Babu 1-9, Shuvo 1-24).
Result: Dhaka won by eight wickets.
