Saudi Man Who Raped Daughter

A Saudi newspaper says a man convicted of raping his daughter has been sentenced to receive 2,080 lashes over the course of a 13-year prison term.
The court in the holy city of Mecca found the man guilty of raping his teenage daughter for seven years while under the influence of drugs.
The Okaz newspaper reported Saturday that the man will receive the lashes in stages throughout his prison sentence. The man's name was not published.
Lashing is one of the penalties available to the clerics who serve as judges in Saudi Arabia and issue rulings according to the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islamic law.
Saudi religious police say the girl's uncle tipped them off to the crime.

Pakistan soldier to hang for murder


A paramilitary soldier guilty of murder that’s a Pakistani court today found and sentenced him to death for killing an unarmed man at point blank range in an incident caught on camera in a public park.

Lawyers said it marked the first time that a civilian court in Pakistan has sentenced to death a serving member of the military.
Although the Rangers paramilitary technically comes under the supervision of the interior ministry, it is considered part of the powerful armed forces, which has ruled the country for more than half its existence.

The June 8 killing of Sarfaraz Shah, 22, was filmed by a cameraman and broadcast on television, sparking a backlash over the brutality of trained officers in a country awash with violence blamed on the Taliban and al-Qaeda.
 
Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso read out the verdict before an anti-terrorism court in Karachi, finding 35-year-old Shahid Zafar guilty of pulling the trigger, and sentenced him to death and a fine of $2224 "The crime of killing Sarfraz Shah has been proved against you and I announce the death sentence and also impose a fine of 200,000 rupees," said Khoso, addressing Zafar

Woman alleges rape by army personnel in Kashmir 


Army's 15 Corps Lt General S A Hasnain on Friday denied the Indian Army's involvement in the alleged rape of a Gujjar woman in south Kashmir. Hasnain, however, said strict action would be taken against the guilty but cautioned that the allegations may have been leveled to "defame the force" and disturb the peace.

"If there is any truth in the allegation, criminal act against which strict action must be taken. Army is cooperating in the police investigation and separate investigation of our own," Hasnain told reporters here.

A 30 year old Gujjar woman from Gujjardara-Manzgam in Kulgam district told locals on Thursday that a group of Army men from the nearby camp pounced upon her when she was conducting ablution for prayers near her hutment, raped by two army soldiers of 62 Rastriya Rifles. The police have registered a rape case on the basis of these allegations.

Meanwhile, chief minister Omar Abdullah promised strict action against the guilty. The medical examination of the woman.

They said the swabs taken from the woman have been sent for forensic laboratory in Srinagar. "If any foreign bodies are found in the swabs, the same will be subjected to DNA testing for ascertaining the identity of the bearer."

Asked about the possibility of holding an identification parade, Hasnain said, "We will have to see the legality of this... there are lots of legalities involved in it.''

A Japanese guilty of killing British teacher

A British teacher found guilty and sentenced to life in prison that’s a Japanese man who admitted to raping and strangling.
The same way the Casey Anthony trial the United States month-long trial of Tatsuya Ichihashi riveted Japan.

The victim Lindsay Hawker's battered, naked body was found in a bathtub in Ichihashi's apartment in March 2007 -- buried in sand.
Ichihashi then went on the run, altering his face through cosmetic surgery several times to elude arrest.

After arrested two and half years later, Ichihashi acknowledged killing Hawker. But the question at the center of the trial was whether he intended to.

Hawker's parents who were in Chiba District Court, east of Tokyo, for the verdict had asked prosecutors to hand down the harshest sentence: death.

Later, he told Hawker to follow him to his apartment so he could pay her, prosecutors said. Killing when police arrived to interview Ichihashi, he fled. he would drop in at clinics to undergo more cosmetic surgery, prosecutors said.
Before the verdict was read Thursday, hundreds of people lined up outside court to take part in a lottery that would allow 57 of them seats inside.

Authorities offered a 10 million yen reward ($127,000) reward for information leading to Ichihashi's capture. They finally caught up with him at a ferry terminal in the western Japanese city of Osaka in November 2009.
