One year ago today, on May 1, 2011, Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs in a daring raid on his compound near Islamabad, Pakistan. Through thousands of documents seized during the assault—many of them slated to be declassified later this week—we've learned a lot about the terror leader since his death.

'A tragedy on Good Friday' Police death

AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin police officer has been killed after a shooting inside a North Austin Walmart.
"It's a tragedy on Good Friday to lose an officer like this, but it's part of what these men and women do," said Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, addressing the media at 6 a.m. "They know when they become police officers that this is ultimately the sacrifice they are willing to make."
Public Information Officer Anthony Hipolito said they got a 911 call at 2:21 a.m. of an intoxicated person wandering around the store. The officer killed was the first to arrive at the scene eight minutes after being dispatched to Walmart.
When he went inside, the officer made contact with the male suspect, who immediately began fighting with the officer.

During the fight, the suspect pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and shot the officer at point blank in the neck area, according to Acevedo.
The officer was able to radio for help, saying he had been shot. Another officer arrived, took the suspect into custody and began administering CPR to the fallen officer.
"Despite the valiant efforts of our officer who started CPR, and EMS, the officer succumb to his injury and was pronounced at the scene at 2:44 a.m.," said Acevedo.
Acevedo spoke with the family of the fallen officer around 5:30 a.m. He was a father of two daughters, ages 10 and 6. He leaves behind an ex-wife who lives in the area, parents and family in San Angelo.
The officer's name has not been released because they are waiting to make sure family in San Angelo has been notified of his death.
While they have an arrest, the charges are not yet known.
"We want to put the community at ease that there is a suspect in custody and not someone running around on the loose," said Hipolito.
Said the officer involved was on duty when it happened. The officer killed is the one who responded that call of the intoxicated person.
Familiar with the strong ties of a tight-knit police family, Travis County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 5:30 a.m. to offer their condolences to the department.
There were dozens of police at the store at 12900 North Interstate 35 near Parmer Lane early Friday morning.
The entire parking lot is off limits, as police have that and all entrances blocked off. No one can get into the Walmart, and a lot of people have not even been able to leave the store
The deadly shooting early Friday morning came seven hours after another officer-involved shooting in East Austin that ended in the death of a suspect and the officer involved hospitalized with injuries.
Acevedo said they are making sure to gather everything at the scene.
Witnesses said they were in the back of the store when they heard a loud boom and thought it was a 2X4 hitting the floor. That's when someone came running up to a Walmart employee screaming about a shooting.
The witnesses said they ran to the front of the store and saw someone on the floor receiving CPR, though they didn't know it was an police officer at the time. Officers had already responded by that time, and people had begun to gather at the front of the store by the McDonald's at the entrance.

Resurrection and the demise of death

All of life loves life. Everything leans toward the light, feeds and extends itself. Think of all the plants, flowers and trees that bloom and grow, or all the work that animals do in order to stay alive. Indeed, we humans do all this and more. We dream of living forever through tradition, progeny, projects and through belief in an afterlife. To tell someone that he or she will be dead forever is ultimately to rob that person of hope.

Not surprisingly, then, for ages we've been thinking about life after death. From building pyramids loaded with supplies for the journey of death, to honoring reincarnated beings, to visiting cemeteries, we do many surprising things in the hope that there may be some living to do after we die.

Research & Study: Vitamins use may increase health & death risk in older women

Popping vitamins may do more harm than good, according to a new study that adds to a growing body of evidence suggesting some supplements may have health risks.
Older women who took a daily vitamin supplement, even just a multivitamin, had an increased risk of dying of cardiovascular disease and cancer, according to a study published Monday in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine.
Multivitamin users older women just as likely as non-users to have died or been diagnosed with common cancers or suffered stroke or a heart attack.
This study about woman who take supplements dying younger a good example of why it’s important to be research literate. This study does not show a casual link to taking supplements and early death.
In this study, being trumpeted all over the web today, WebMB reports that “In a new study, multivitamins, folic acid, iron, copper, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin B6 supplements all increased an older woman’s risk. The greatest risk was seen with iron supplements. Calcium supplements, however, seemed to reduce a woman’s risk of dying.
Researchers used data from the Iowa Women's Health Study to examine the link between vitamin and mineral supplements and death rates among 38,772 women, average age 61.6. Women filled out questionnaires about supplement use in 1986, 1997 and 2004. "Out of 15 studied supplements, seven are associated with increased total mortality risk," . "Other studies have not shown the mortality risk our study shows” lead author Jaakko Murso says, at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
The new study linked a number of individual vitamins and minerals to the slight mortality risk, including multivitamins, vitamin B6, folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc and copper.
"However, we do know that most compounds are toxic in high amounts, and long-term use might predispose [a person] to detrimental outcomes," he told MyHealthNewsDaily
Researchers used data from the Iowa Women's Health Study to examine the association between vitamin and mineral supplements and death rate among 38,772 women, average age 61.6 years.
"Out of 15 studied supplements, seven are associated with increased total mortality risk," says Murso. Among findings:
Use of multivitamins, vitamin B6, folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc and copper are associated with increased risk of death.
The association between supplement intake and death risk was strongest with iron.
Calcium supplements, meanwhile, were associated with reduced risk.

Woman's  body recover, husband suspected

Recovered the body of a woman, by the police on Sunday night, suspected to be killed by her husband, at Ghashipara in Dinajpur town of Bangladesh.

The deceased was Mokima Akhter Moon, 32, wife of Shahjahan Mahmud, a lecturer at Setabganj Degree College.

The Kotwali police said that elder brother of the deceased Mobin Haque Chowdhury suspected that Shahjahan Mahmud had beaten his wife to death.

The police recovered the body, breaking the lock of their rented house, and sent it to the Dinajpur Medical College Hospital of Bangladesh morgue for post-mortem.

Two T-shirts, far left, meant for the surprise 19th birthday celebration of slain Tipu Sultan. Father, sister and mother of slain college student Kamruzzaman Kanto shed tears, top, together at their home in Darussalam in the capital Dhaka. His birthday was yesterday.

His sister bought two new T-shirts and was planning to order a cake for his 19th birthday. The family made all the preparations to give him a big surprise that birthday party turned into a home of mourning yesterday.

Tipu Sultan, one of the six students beaten to death by a mob on Monday, was only two days away from his 19th birthday.

“We didn't tell him anything, as we wanted to surprise him,” said his sister Anar Koli, a Dhaka University student.

“What am I going to do with these T-shirts?” she asked reporters at their Shyamoli residence in the capital and broke into tears.

 “Since Tipu was the youngest [among two brothers and a sister] my mother often fed him with her own hands,” said Sheikh Farid, Tipu's elder brother.

Several hundred students and teachers of Tejgaon College also formed a human chain in front of the college protesting the killing of Tipu Sultan, a first year student of management department. They called for punishment of his killers.

College Principal Prof Abdur Rashid told the media that Tipu was an innocent boy.

 “On his birthday, we demand punishment of Tipu's killers,” said Sumon Mahmud, his friend from the college.

 “None of my boys were robbers. They were never involved in any kind of criminal activities,” he said. “We want proper investigation so that the actual fact is unearthed paving the way for justice.”

“Why my son was killed in this way? He is one of the brilliant students of English medium and he was not involved in any kind of crimes. I want justice,” his father Aminur Rahim said.

Hundreds of people broke into tears seeing his body. his mother said. “My son was innocent; he has never done anything wrong.” He was buried on Monday night.
